Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – The Gateway to Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Settle in and enjoy a briefing on the exciting safari ahead. Spend the evening at leisure in the heart of Rwanda’s clean, vibrant capital.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Road to Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, begin your scenic drive to the southern province. Along the way, explore Rwanda’s royal history with a visit to the King’s Palace in Nyanza and uncover the country’s cultural legacy at the National Museum in Huye. Arrive at Nyungwe Forest National Park in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest – Colobus Monkey Trek or Canopy Walk
Following a morning briefing by park rangers, venture deep into Nyungwe Forest in search of the iconic colobus monkeys. Alternatively, opt for the exhilarating Canopy Walk adventure or engage in a community village tour for a taste of local life.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest
Rise early and head to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking experience. Trek through lush rainforests in search of playful chimps swinging overhead and listen to their calls echoing through the trees. Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring more nature trails.
Day 5: Journey to Lake Kivu – Kibuye
Leave the forest behind as you travel northwest to the tranquil shores of Lake Kivu in Kibuye. Relax and soak in the peaceful lakeside atmosphere or enjoy a serene sunset walk.
Day 6: Kibuye to Gisenyi – Lake Cruise & Scenic Drive
Start the day with an optional speedboat cruise to Gisenyi—an adventurous way to admire Lake Kivu’s islands and beauty. Later, drive through charming countryside to Ruhengeri in Kinigi, nestled near Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy stunning views of the five volcanic peaks along the way.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking – Volcanoes National Park
Today is the highlight of your safari. After a park briefing, trek through dense mountain forests to spend a magical hour with one of the habituated families of mountain gorillas. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing scenic drive to the twin lakes—Ruhondo and Burera.
Day 8: Second Gorilla Trek – Return to Kigali
Return to Volcanoes National Park for a second gorilla trek, this time tracking a different family group for a fresh perspective and new memories. After this rare wildlife experience, journey back to Kigali for a restful evening.
Day 9: Kigali City Tour – Departure
Explore Kigali with visits to local markets, artisan shops, and the Kigali Genocide Memorial—a poignant tribute to Rwanda’s past and its inspiring path to peace. After the tour, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
