Day 1: Welcome to Rwanda

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be warmly received and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner and relax after your flight, ready to begin your unforgettable journey.

Day 2: Kigali City Immersion & Reconciliation Tour

Spend the day exploring Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest and most welcoming cities. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Bugesera Reconciliation Village, and Gisozi Memorial Site, where you’ll gain insight into Rwanda’s journey of healing and unity. Through powerful exhibits and testimonies, you’ll understand the incredible transformation of this resilient nation.

Day 3: Pastoralist Traditions & Imigongo Art

Venture into a pastoralist village, where you’ll take part in traditional cattle grazing, milk harvesting, and hear about the cultural significance of cows in Rwandan society. In the afternoon, tour an Imigongo Art Center where you’ll learn the ancient craft of cow-dung paintings, a distinctive Rwandan artistic style.

Day 4: Healing Through Ethnobotany

Experience a hands-on session in traditional Rwandan medicine through an Ethno Botany tour. Learn how local healers identify, prepare and administer herbal remedies. In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural cooking class with local women, mastering the art of preparing traditional dishes with seasonal ingredients.

Day 5: Gisenyi – Lava Trails & Lakeside Relaxation

Drive west to the lakeside town of Gisenyi, located near Lake Kivu. Tour the fishing villages, marvel at the solidified lava fields from the 2002 Nyiragongo eruption and relax in the natural hot springs. Enjoy a peaceful evening by the lake.

Day 6: Banana & Sorghum Beer Experience

Visit local banana and sorghum farms, two of Rwanda’s key agricultural staples. Learn how these crops are used to make traditional beers and discover the symbolism and rituals tied to their production. Participate in every stage—from fermentation to tasting!

Day 7: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Head to Parc National des Volcans for a golden monkey trek. These playful and endangered primates live in the bamboo forests at the base of the Virunga Mountains. After the trek, drive back to Kigali for a restful overnight stay.

Day 8: Kings, Cathedrals, and Museums of Butare

Travel south to Butare, Rwanda’s cultural capital. Stop at the Basilica of Kabgayi, tour the Royal Palace of Nyanza, and explore the National Museum of Rwanda, showcasing traditional tools, dress and ancient music instruments. Return to Kigali in the evening.

Day 9: Crossing into the Congo – Journey to Bukima

After breakfast, receive a safari briefing and drive via Goma into the Democratic Republic of Congo, arriving at Bukima, the staging post for gorilla treks in Virunga National Park. Settle into your tented camp or eco-lodge and prepare for the next day’s big adventure.

Day 10: Gorilla Trek in Virunga National Park (DRC)

Begin the day with a briefing at the Park Headquarters, then set off into the misty mountains of Virunga for a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience. As you walk through the dense forest, you’ll encounter the gentle giants of Africa in their natural habitat—an emotional and awe-inspiring experience. Return to camp and reflect on the day.

Day 11: Return to Kigali & Departure

After breakfast, cross back into Rwanda and enjoy your scenic drive to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll either be dropped at your hotel or at the airport for your onward journey, closing the curtain on an extraordinary cross-border adventure.
