Day 1: Nairobi to Malindi – Coastal Welcome
After arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or pick-up from your Nairobi residence, you’ll be transferred to Wilson Airport for your direct flight to Malindi. On arrival, you’ll check in at the luxurious Sandies Tropical Village Resort, where a warm coastal breeze and a sumptuous lunch welcome you. Spend the rest of your day relaxing on the beach, dipping into the Indian Ocean or engaging in curated resort activities. Enjoy dinner as you settle into your beachfront surroundings.
Day 02: Swahili Heritage and Sea Adventures
Following breakfast and check-out, your journey into history begins with a visit to The House of Columns, a prime example of Swahili architecture, housing a rare Coelacanth specimen. Continue to the National Museum to explore Ming dynasty porcelain, ancient Persian wares and Swahili town artifacts. You’ll then admire the iconic Vasco da Gama Pillar and Portuguese chapel, standing as testaments to the early maritime explorers.
Later, a scenic drive leads you to Watamu, where you’ll check in at Turtle Bay Resort. Spend the afternoon immersed in water sports, from windsurfing and paddle boarding to kayaking.
Day 3: Exploring Ruins, Snakes & Bird Havens in Watamu
After breakfast, visit Bio-Ken Snake Farm, home to one of Africa’s largest reptile collections. Continue to the mysterious Gede Ruins, a 12th-century Swahili town once thriving with trade, now shrouded in legends and lush forest.
After lunch, venture to Mida Creek, a tidal ecosystem rich in mangroves and birdlife, followed by a mangrove boardwalk and a boat ride to Kirepwe Island, where the unexplored ruins and palm-fringed pools hint at a forgotten Arab past. Return to Turtle Bay for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Mombasa City Tour – A Colonial Tapestry
Check out and transfer to Voyager Beach Resort in Mombasa for lunch and a deep dive into Mombasa’s multicultural history. Start with Fort Jesus Museum, a 16th-century Portuguese fort that once guarded spice routes and held slaves.
Stroll through Old Town, rich in Swahili and Arabic architecture, then see the iconic Mombasa Tusks, built in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s 1952 visit. You’ll explore Mackinnon Market, brimming with local produce and spices and end the day at Akamba Woodcraft in Changamwe, witnessing artisans craft stunning wood carvings.
Day 5: Diani via Likoni Ferry – Spiritual Coastal Heritage
Enjoy breakfast and check out for your southward journey to Diani, crossing the historic Likoni Ferry—once a key trade route. On arrival, check in at your beach resort and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, visit the ancient Kongo Mosque, believed to date back to the 14th century and still active today. Absorb the serenity and Islamic heritage before heading back for a sunset dinner on Diani’s white sands.
Day 6: Wasini Island Dolphin Safari & Snorkeling
Embark on a full-day adventure to Wasini Island. Depart early for Shimoni Pier, then sail aboard a traditional Swahili dhow to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park, known for its pristine coral reefs and resident dolphin pods. Snorkel in the turquoise waters and marvel at colorful marine life.
Later, enjoy a Swahili seafood lunch on Wasini Island before a guided village tour and visit to the Shimoni Caves, once used as slave holding pens. Wrap up the day at the Shimoni Slave Museum, reflecting on Kenya’s darker historical chapters. Return to Southern Palms Beach Resort for dinner and rest.
Day 7: Farewell & Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and enjoy a final morning by the beach. You’ll then be transferred to Ukunda Airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi, marking the end of an unforgettable coastal odyssey.
